The U.S. Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a $61 million contract for two important Patriot air defense upgrades, moves designed to address one of the system’s best-known operational weaknesses. Reporting says the package includes a new containerized launcher and the RIG-360 guidance system, which together are meant to give PAC-3 interceptors a true 360-degree engagement capability instead of the current limited sector coverage.
