Manitoba health officials are reminding residents to take precautions against Lyme disease and West Nile virus as tick and mosquito activity increases during the summer months. The province says blacklegged ticks, which can carry Lyme disease, can be active any time there is no snow on the ground. Residents are encouraged to use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants, stay in the centre of walking trails and check themselves, children and pets for ticks after spending time outdoors.
