Driving through north-western Sydney recently, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d accidentally stepped back in time; elves, knights and goblins lined the streets, and trains were packed with princesses, pirates and pixies. All were making their way to Winterfest Sydney, a sold-out medieval festival that represents a huge change in how and why Australians are travelling.
