IIT Jodhpur researchers have found that nearly 44% of the world’s 7,164 languages are spoken by fewer than 1,000 people, putting many at risk of disappearing. The decline could also threaten centuries-old cultural knowledge and traditions. Researchers are studying Bhil, Mundari and Tamil heritage languages to understand and preserve linguistic and cultural diversity.
