New study links GLP-1 medications to lower breast cancer risk

A new Penn Medicine study presented at the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting found that women aged 45–80 who used GLP-1 medications for diabetes or weight management were 30 per cent less likely to develop breast cancer than non-users. The observational study, which analysed more than 110,000 women, adds to growing evidence linking metabolic health to cancer risk, but researchers and experts caution that it does not prove GLP-1 drugs directly prevent breast cancer.
