Italy's Societa Gestione Impianti Nucleari SpA has begun operations to re-encapsulate 64 uranium-thorium fuel elements currently held in the storage pool at the Itrec facility on the Rotondella site in the province of Matera, in the southern Italian region of Basilicata.
