Synthetic cell SpudCell, the first built from non-living components by University of Minnesota synthetic biologists Kate Adamala and Aaron Engelhart, has completed a full biological life cycle — feeding, growing, replicating its genome, and dividing. Its 90 kbp genome beats the 113 kbp theoretical minimum, and the open Biotic platform will share blueprints globally.
