Rajasthan's water supplies department has built a 28-km artificial lake in Jaisalmer's Thar Desert to supply Barmer and Jaisalmer year-round. Executive engineer Rampal Mundhiyara said the ₹242-crore reservoir addresses shortages during the Indira Gandhi Canal's annual one-month Naharbandi. The lined lake can store 1.41 billion litres and may be inaugurated in July 2026 after filling.
