Why does cancer strike hardest in middle age? Scientists finally have a probable explanation

Scientists have found melanoma spreads most aggressively in middle age rather than steadily increasing with age. In mice studies, cancer spread was lowest in youth, peaked in middle age, then declined again in very old age. The key factor appears to be immune gamma delta T cells that protect against spread.
